Hedgehogs are the only mammals that can simply curl up. If they feel threatened, they can quickly curl up into a cute ball to protect themselves from danger. This way they can protect themselves from golden eagles, martens or foxes!
Hedgehogs help to keep forests clean because they eat pests and other insects that could harm trees and plants. This has earned them the title of “gardeners of the forest”.
One has up to 7,000 spines, which are firmly attached to the hedgehog and are hollow inside to save weight. There are a total of 24 different species of hedgehog that have adapted to different environments.
